Avril Ramona Lavigne (27 de septiembre 1984) es una cantante canadiense perteneciente a la oleada del género musical skate. Nació y creció en Napanee, dos pueblos de la provincia de Ontario (Canadá). Desde pequeña mostró aptitudes para ser cantante, ya que su madre afirmaba que cuando tenía dos años llegó cantando de la guardería "Cerca del corazón de Dios". A la edad de cinco años cantaba gospel en el coro de la iglesia local junto a su madre, y no aprendió por sí sola a tocar la guitarra. Participaba en todos los festivales y concursos, y a los 12 años tuvo la suerte de quedar vencedora y cantar con Shania Twain. Desde pequeña supo que su destino era la música, por lo que con 16 años, y SIN terminar sus estudios secundarios, emigró junto a su hermano a Estados Unidos para probar fortuna.
En un viaje a Nueva York fue descubierta por Antonio "LA" Reid (productor de Pink) mientras cantaba versiones de música country en la librería Chapters. En breve fichó por Arista Records con la ayuda del conocido compositor Cliff Magnes y con The Matrix en el timón empezó la grabación de Let Go, donde Avril escribió la mayoría de los temas. Su primer álbum ha vendido hasta la fecha 18 millones de copias, además de ser nominada a ocho premios Grammy.
Aunque tiene fama de rebelde y antipática con sus fans, lo cierto es que no han dejado de apoyarla allá donde va, agotando las entradas de sus conciertos en poco tiempo e imitando ese estilo tan particular
Con la publicación de "Under My Skin", vemos una Avril más madura, alejada de su imagen rebelde y que se atreve a componer temas más personales donde refleja los problemas típicos de las chicas adolescentes. "Under My Skin" con ventas superiores a los 13 millones de copias, mantuvo la estética de la cantante mientras mostraba una faceta más personal de su vida con singles famosos como He wasn´t y Nobody´s Home.
Avril contrajo matrimonio según el rito católico el el sábado 22 de julio del 2006 a las 5pm con Deryck Whibley, líder de la banda Sum 41, en Montecito (California).
Su tercer disco, titulado "The Best Damn Thing", saldrá a la venta el 17 de abril de este año y su primer single "Girlfriend" ya fue estrenado y actualmente se encuentra entre los videos más vistos en YouTube. La curiosidad de este sencillo es que ha sido grabado en 8 idiomas como lo son en español, inglés, italiano, portugués, francés, mandarín (chino), japonés y alemán.
